Once named X Base, Kings Island’s newest expansion addition to the dry park dates back all the way to 1996 when Flight of Fear opened. Before that, it was only access roads and maintenance buildings. It was rethemed to X Base when Cedar Fair opened Firehawk back in 2007. Now it seems Cedar Fair, is focusing on expanding the area once again. With the addition of KI’s new Giga coaster, Orion, the park has improved that part of the park once again by adding a new restaurant, a family restaurant and numerous themed elements. Moreover it looks like the park may have left this area open to expansion in the not-so-distant future by paving the area down by the Orion queue to go right which would take foot traffic under the Orion break run to the other side which looks like there is an abundant amount of space to expand.
